EU Awareness Centre at the Erhard Busek Ambassador Talks: “Moldova goes Europe”
On 20 November 2025, the Chair of the EU Awareness Centre, David Dondua, took part in the Erhard Busek Ambassador Talks titled “Moldova goes Europe: Challenges and Opportunities on the Way to Secure Democracy.” The event, hosted by the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM) in Vienna, featured H.E. Victoria Roșa, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Austria, in conversation with Sebastian Schäffer, IDM's Director.
The discussion offered a comprehensive overview of Moldova’s evolving European trajectory, taking place at a pivotal moment following the 2025 parliamentary elections, the 2024 presidential election, and the consolidation of Moldova’s democratic commitments under significant geopolitical pressure.
Ambassador Roșa highlighted the resilience of Moldovan society and institutions in the face of persistent hybrid threats, external interference, and attempts to undermine electoral integrity. She emphasised the government’s continued efforts to strengthen the rule of law, modernise state institutions, advance anti-corruption reforms, and reinforce civil society participation—all crucial pillars supporting the country’s European integration path.
The conversation also addressed Moldova’s security environment, the complexities of regional geopolitics, and the ongoing debate surrounding the country’s constitutional neutrality. Ambassador Rosa outlined how Moldova navigates these challenges while deepening cooperation with European partners and maintaining a clear strategic orientation toward the European Union.
At the same time, the event underscored the opportunities ahead for Moldova: economic modernisation, improved governance standards, and intensified alignment with EU norms, which together strengthen societal resilience and reinforce democratic progress.
The event provided valuable context for the EU Awareness Centre’s work and strengthened our understanding of Moldova’s ongoing reforms and European ambitions.
