Hubertus Jahn is Emeritus Professor of the History of Russia and the Caucasus at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge. He is a historian of Russia and the Soviet Union with a strong interdisciplinary track record. His research and teaching cover all periods of Russian history and culture. He has also developed a particular focus on the Caucasus. Jahn holds a PhD from Georgetown University and a higher doctorate (Habilitation) from the University of Erlangen. Over the last 40 years, he has been teaching at leading universities in the US, Germany, Russia, and the United Kingdom. His publications include “Patriotic Culture in Russia during World War I.” Ithaca, London: Cornell University Press (1995, paperback 1998); „Armes Russland: Bettler und Notleidende in der russischen Geschichte vom Mittelalter bis in die Gegenwart.“ Paderborn: Schöningh Verlag (2010); and “Identities and Representations in Georgia from the 19th Century to the Present.” Berlin, Boston: De Gruyter (editor, 2020). Jahn also serves as the chair of FaRiG (Friends of Academic Research in Georgia), a London-based charity that supports scholars in the humanities in Georgia.
