Leo Bederna

Leo Bederna is a remote intern at the EU Awareness Centre, where he conducts political research and creates written content, primarily for the Facts vs Manipulation column. He is currently studying Politics and Philosophy at the University of Glasgow.

Raised in the United Kingdom, Leo completed his International Baccalaureate Diploma in Budapest, an experience that first drew him toward Central European politics. During this time, he volunteered with the Hungarian political party Magyar Kétfarkú Kutya Párt, contributing to community regeneration projects and attending public events on the state of Hungarian democracy — an engagement that sparked a lasting interest in populism and grassroots political movements. He went on to work as a Hungarian-English interpreter in Glasgow, supporting Hungarian-speaking communities in their interactions with social services, an experience that sharpened both his linguistic skills and his understanding of how institutions engage with the public.

His academic and professional interests lie at the intersection of EU governance, the rise of populism, and geopolitics. He is a native speaker of English and Hungarian, and has conversational proficiency in French.
