Eighteen Years of Occupation: We Remember, We Resist

Date
7 August 2026

On 7 August 2008, Russia invaded Georgia. The war led to the occupation of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali Region. Eighteen years later, the occupation continues. The occupation lines move quietly, year by year, cutting through villages, taking new territories and separating families. People still cannot return to their homes. The wound stays open.

But every occupation ends. History has shown this again and again. And so will this one.

We remember the victims of the war. We resist any attempt to make this occupation feel normal or permanent. We stand with Georgia, and with every nation in Europe’s neighbourhood whose sovereignty is tested by force.

We remember. We resist. We remain united.
