Happy Independence Day, Georgia!

Date
26 May 2026

On May 26, the EU Awareness Centre honours the courage, resilience, and enduring European aspiration of the Georgian people.

Georgia’s modern history has been shaped by a continuous struggle to defend its sovereignty, democratic choice, and place within the European family. Even in difficult times — amid political polarisation, external pressure, disinformation, and growing challenges to democratic institutions — the commitment of Georgian society to freedom, dignity, and European values remains unmistakable.

Independence is not only a historical achievement; it is a responsibility that must be protected through democratic governance, the rule of law, pluralism, and civic unity.

On this national day, we reaffirm our support for a democratic, sovereign, and European Georgia — a country whose future belongs in a peaceful, united, and free Europe.

Happy Independence Day to the people of Georgia.
